Kids love to dress up and these classes provide a great opportunity to do so. Just make sure they are in comfortable clothes for easy movement.
Please note we prefer children to dress like children and not mini-adults. Girls are requested not to wear bra or bikini tops to class, performances or rehearsals. Crop tops are fine, and of course the more flowing the skirt, the more fun when you twirl! Shoes are not required, although ballet slippers, jiffy's or flat soled shoes can be worn.
With all of our junior classes the focus is to cover a variety of basic rhythms and dance styles suitable for both boys and girls.
In this fun class we concentrate on learning the basics of bellydance, its movements and music and look at some of the costuming. Each week we discover some new moves and work towards a simple dance routine. Classes are taught in a non-competitive environment with simple routines that can help to improve co-ordination, memory and concentration skills. Class numbers are kept small to ensure quality instruction and attention and students repeating the course are set separate challenges appropriate to their ability. 
Note from Renate: In 2010 we introduced our newest instructors, Alex and Laura as teachers for the Shimmy Club. Alex and Laura first became involved in bellydance through our childrens program, the Hippi Chix. In fact, it was because of Alex that a specialised program was created, and both the girls were in the very first class I ever taught for children. So, for me, it is a real thrill to see them not only become beautiful dancers, but also passionate instructors ready to share their love of dance with a new group of children.
Would you like to treat your child to an exclusive class at home? Our 'taster' class can be packaged up and brought to your place. We bring hip scarves, veils and music so they can dance in the comfort of home.
Alternatively, we can offer our "Shimmy Princess" bellydance experience, just perfect for birthdays! Again, we provide the veils and hip scarves, games and dancing to ensure your little princess and her friends have a memorable party. We can even supply gift bags for attendees and a present for the birthday girl.
