From Renate: Jody is our newest instructor to the team with a vibrant personality and a real passion for bellydance. Her great sense of fun, combined with her training in other dance forms as well as bellydance, ensures that students not only receive great instruction on how to bellydance, they are guaranteed to have a fun adventure at the same time. Please read on and find out what Jody has to say about herself.

Dance has always been a big part of my life, having been trained in classical ballet from the age of four (and still a keen aficionado of this style) and enjoying ballroom and Latin as a wonderful social activity in my single days, I gave up trying to convince my partner to come to ballroom dance classes with me and decided with a girlfriend to give belly dancing a go! Our reasons at the time were twofold – we were looking for something 'new' and something that made us move.

My first classes were with Renate in 2005 and I was addicted from the first class. Everything about this magnificent dance form inspires me; the music, the costumes, the colour and the freedom of personal expression it allows me. Plus the wonderful friendships I have made, not to mention the 'fun with fitness' aspect. Since this time I have expanded my dance experience through workshops at the annual WAMED Festival with some amazing instructors, as well as having undertaken the A-Z Original Personal Techniques training course as created by Keti Sharif.

I love performing and teaching, it is so fulfilling to be able to share the warmth and excitement of bellydance with people. I dance with the Sisters of Isis from Bellydance WA and especially love going out into the community to dance as well as dancing at parties (especially hen’s nights) where I have met so many lovely people!

I am continually motivated by the journey bellydance is taking me on, I love learning more and regularly attend classes and workshops to enrich my dance experience.

Bellydance has given so much more to me than just 'learning something new that made me move' and I look forward to sharing my journey with you.
