My dance odyssey began at an early age. I trained in many forms of dance and movement and this was imperative in the creation of my versatility as a dancer. As a professional competitor with the Australian Dance Society, WADMA & the Australian Institute of Dance sport, I specialised in Latin American and Standard Ballroom. I managed my own dance studio in WA for many years, taking students through examinations and making assessments in a variety of styles.
My journey into Middle Eastern Dance was due to a sudden change of fate as I began belly dancing as part of a rehabilitation process. Belly dancing assisted in strengthening my muscles to restore flexibility and muscle control and has since become my passion, leading me to Egypt on three separate occasions to further studies in the art.
My work involves dancing, teaching and helping others. It's a wonderful experience to motivate and encourage students of all ages, and making a positive attitude infectious. Along with teaching traditional Middle Eastern Dance, I also like to create playful progressive modern fusions drawing on my dance experience as inspiration.
I love participating in workshops, as continuous training enables me to give the "most" to my students. Recently in 2006, I attended Master Teacher's workshops at the Nile Group Festival in Cairo.
I have taught dance at colleges in Western Australia and performed with a touring troupe throughout the state. Previous travel and performance engagements included a variety of professional dance shows in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand & Malaysia. I am a member of Keti Sharif's official A-Z Assessment panel and am also a Master trainer in Pulse8 Fitness.
My personal quote: "We are all individual dancers, like the pieces of a puzzle. Brought together we form a beautiful picture. I like to create a frame for that picture, bringing in unity and structure yet enabling complete individuality".
